Taiping to hold International lantern fest

AN international lantern festival, which will feature over 50 lanterns from Shanxi province, China, will be on show in Taiping from August 27 to September 17.

The event, to be held at Jalan Eastern (Dobi Line), is organised in conjunction with National Day and the Taiping Municipal Council anniversary celebrations.

Organising committee chairman Beh Yang Toh said there will also be a cultural show during the festival.

The function is jointly organised by the council, the Taiping Tourist Association, the Larut Matang & Selama District Office, Taiping Chinese Cultural Associations and the Young Malaysian Movement of Larut Matang branch.

The festival is scheduled to be launched by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali on September 1 and will be opened from 7.30 pm daily.

Beh said the biggest lantern would be an 8m tall and 14m long silk figurine.

Entrance is RM5 and RM2 for adults and children respectively.

Beh added that ticket holders will be able to enter Taiping Zoo at 50% discount and they will also qualify for a lucky draw where return air tickets to Hongkong, Bangkok and Taiwan await three lucky visitors.
