PERSISTENCE paid off for 63 year old businesswoman Ng Khoy Huah.

She was finally reimbursed for her medical expenses, albeit only partially by the insurance firm.

She received two cheques totalling RM16,654.94 on Oct 21 from the mother company of her medical insurance provider although her actual bill was more than RM26,000.

"However, I suppose getting this partial sum is better than nothing at all," she quipped.

"I am so glad that my nightmare of having to constantly call up the company has ended," she said.

The insurance company explained it could only give her the lesser amount because not everything

in the surgical procedure was covered under the scheme.

Ng was speaking to reporters at a press conference called by MCA Public Affairs and Complaints Bureau chief Ooi Chuan Aik on Wednesday.

Ng said she wanted to thank the company for its cooperation and Bank Negara for getting the company to expedite her case.

Ng, said she had bought the medical insurance policy from Medfiche Sdn Bhd in July 1998.

"When I was admitted for heart surgery in May 2000, I was told to pay first as Medfiche would reimburse me later," she said.

The bill came up to more than RM26,000.

"However, Medfiche ceased operations later, forcing me to approach the mother company for reimbursement," she said.

"I am also grateful to the MCA and the media for highlighting my problem which has led to the prompt action by the company," she said.

Ng advised consumers to be well-informed of what was covered under their medical insurance scheme.

"They should be aware that not everything is covered and there could be ceiling amounts imposed by the company," she said.
