In 1884, "A large area of land, chiefly swamp and abandoned mines, was drained, levelled, planted and fenced for a public garden in Thaipeng...... In 1911, it was regarded as "perhaps the most beautiful of  any gardens in the Federated Malay States."  It is a beautiful , serene 66-hectare park and home to giant Angsana trees with branches that droop till they touch the ground.
