The first zoo in the country, it houses exotic animals and has provided an escape to nature’s  habitat for the people of Taiping.

It is situated in a lovely natural setting within the Lake Garden in
Taiping close to the foot of Maxwell Hill (Bukit Larut) covering a total area of 24 acres.  The beautiful natural setting with streams, lakes and abundance of flora gives the zoo a unique advantage of being able to use nature to its best.  The birds, reptiles and mammals are thoughtfully exhibited in natural looking enclosures.  There are cafeterias inside and outside the Zoo


Open everyday of the year including Sundays and Public Holidays.

Zoo buys pair of rare Lion Tamarin  ( Thurs Sept 14, 2000 THE STAR )

TAIPING:  A pair of rare and endangered Golden-headed Lion Tamarin has became the latest attraction in the Taiping Zoo.

The animals, aged two and three years old, have a black body with golden fringe around the face.  They have golden-coloured fur on the arms, legs and part of the tail. 

The length of the animals is about 0.25 metre while its tails are about 0.38 metre.

Taiping Zoo director Dr. Kevin Lazarus said the pair, costing US$13,800 (RM52,440), were purchased from a zoo in Switzerland.  They arrived at the Taiping Zoo last yesterday.

Dr Lazarus said it was the only pair for public viewing in South-East Asia.
